If you a panic attack sufferer, you can have one in your car, at home, in public, anywhere.

Something Threatening Your Life

When you are facing a life threatening situation, you are experiencing an intense emotion, something between deep fear and panic.

Well, research has shown that this very same kind of fear is what you experience when you have a panic attack. It could be so similar that you could even feel as if you were dying.

These types of symptoms can last for anywhere from a few minute to a couple of hours.

This means that your mind is evaluating you are under attack and the so called “fight or flight” action is required.

Your Body’s Defense

Immediately your body takes into account your mind’s message, and will act accordingly: your heart rate will increase and you experience a chest tightening.

If nothing improves in a few seconds, then you could feel nauseated or dizzy and you could even faint.

Stressful Hereditary Conditions

Well, research has not yet understood the true nature of panic attacks. For sure there are two main sources:

1) Hereditary condition;

2) Stress or fear.

The quick check to understand your case is to answer a couple of simple questions:

1) Do you have any members in your family or parents or relatives that are panic attack sufferers?

2) Did your panic attack symptoms started or worsened heavily in a stressful situation or event?

In my opinion these two conditions define two completely different panic pathways: the first is about a physiological condition, the second is about a psychological one.

The Way To Go

In both cases professional assistance is the way to go.

If you suspect a hereditary condition, then looking for a physician is mandatory. He could help you to find an appropriate medication schedule and get some basic relief quickly.

If you suspect the cause is a stressful situation, then counselling is more appropriate. You could learn the probable cause of your panic attack and maybe develop a few strategies to handle oncoming attacks. If your symptoms are just caused by a “normal” stress, then learning to control what is causing you anxiety will be your way to improve.

Get more

You can find many remedies for you anxiety from conventional physicians and therapists. Simple approaches that can give you relief in both panic pathways are based on natural remedies. You can try a panic attack natural remedy and start having some simple benefits the easy way (give a look at my website at the previous link).

Dealing With Panic Attack Symptoms - 6: Coming Back

Welcome to the end of the first part of Jane's story, her going down to hell. She could get a quick and fake relief shortly, but because of improper methods of dealing with panic attack problems (her specialist focused on just symptoms instead of finding the root cause of her problems), in a few weeks her symptoms worse and added new ones to her life that increased her stress instead of relaxing and bringing her down.

This left Jane with even fewer personal resources and was not surprise that her anxiety attacks worsened; eventually she became very depressed.

She had to deal constantly with the endless symptoms that not only the anxiety attacks were bringing, but also with the new problems that came with the drug use. At the end, Jane spent a great deal of her last panic attack year on a combination of depression and anxiety attack medications (you can get more info on panic attack medicines in section 4 of my Anxiety and Panic Attack Special Report you can get for free by just sending a blank mail to Anxiety-181@nicheresponder.com).

Going to see the start of the coming back...

Dealing with Panic Attacks - 4: The Wrong Specialist

In Jane's story, things went really bad when she thought she had found the solution but this was not....

Her Step 3 of Going Down with Panic Attacks has been: having to do with the wrong specialist.

Eventually, Jane's family started to get so worried that they called in specialists. They asked Jane what was happening without ever really listening to her and figuring out what her real problems were; they ended up just prescribing Jane several different types of pills.

Be aware that a good friend is much better that the wrong specialist. If you want to have a recap on what's happening, give a look at the last couple of posts....

Well, at this stage life began to be very hard for Jane. Jane didn’t know what was happening to her or what was causing these things to happen to her, so she had nowhere to turn; dealing with these panic attack issues was threatening her life.

Jane started systematically lacking of resources to deal with her day by day relationships. She began to withdraw from her family and friends. Distance was increasing from his husband and in a few months this started to put her marriage at increasing risk.

This fall of her relationships along with everything becoming difficult in her life caused herself to become angry at the world for causing this much stress and angry at herself because she couldn’t control it better. As she found herself unable to manage this stress any better, she started blaming her own lack of coping skills for the things that were happening to her.

Jane began to get upset at everything and everyone around her. She became a reclusive young woman; for almost an entire year she never left neither her home nor her bedroom except to perform basic household tasks and for eating.

Jane's story continues tomorrow here.....

Dealing With Panic Attack Symptoms: The Symptoms in the Daily Life of a Panic Attack Sufferer

In the last post we have started the story of Jane, a panic attack sufferer.
We are going to see how her panic attack story has begun.

Step 1 of Going Down with Panic Attacks: The Symptoms in the Daily Life of a Panic Attack Sufferer

Jane’s panic attack story starts with difficult tasks at the job (your case can be the same or anything else you are uneasy with but you have to confront recurrently).

These uneasy tasks made her slow in addressing her duties and she started being late in delivering her daily job activities. This raises fear in your mind and makes you more vulnerable to new panic attacks. If this trend isn’t spotted in time, you are going to develop a panic attack disorder.

What can you do about that? A quick solution is to exploit panic attack medications that are know to reduce your symptoms. Let’s give a quick look:

Azapirones

Azapirones affects the central nervous system and is effective in relieving many symptoms of anxiety. It’s found in many antidepressants and is able to calm down the nervous system. This will slow the panic attack triggering and will assure you some relief.

Benzodiazepines

This kind of medication is used against insomnia and anxiety. There is an high risk of addiction with benzodiazepines, however for very difficult anxiety cases this is the most common medication used.

If you are going to follow this route, be sure to stay in close contact with your physician or health professional. If not used properly or for the prescribed time period, it can alter significantly your mood and your personality.

Alprazolam

In the benzodiazepines scenario, this medication is one of the more common treatments for general anxiety.

If you experience loose panic attack, then this medication could be effective. Having short term effectiveness, this won’t solve persistent or daily panic attacks. In that case ask your physician what kind of therapy could you benefit from.

Using panic attack medications the right way

If you want to access correctly these panic attack medications, you have to realize these 4 points:

1) Following professional advice is mandatory when talking about these medications and you should not decide the right medication on your own, nor follow the prescription of a friend.

2) Frequency and intensity of panic attack will determine what panic attack medication the physician is going to prescribe you.

3) Your physician could probably prescribe you more than one medication to sort out the one that will be working with you. Don’t be afraid of that.

4) Use the minimal amount of medication needed, both in time and in dosage. Your physician will start that way.

5) As soon as you encounter uneasy side effects or signs of addiction, turn immediately to your physician and let him know. See if a revision of the therapy is appropriate.

So using panic attack medications you can get some relief quickly. But how are you going to make these results stable? I don’t want alarm you, but the average person will experience at least one panic attack in the course of their lifetime.

This doesn’t mean you are caught in a panic disorder, however it’s important you know what the main panic attack symptoms are and be able to recognise if you are having one.

What is a panic attack

A panic attack is the triggering of the so called “fight or flight” mechanism, i.e. is your body’s reaction to a situation your mind perceives as stressful and requiring immediate action and resolution (i.e. you have to leave it by solving it or by flying away).

If this reaction triggers in real high stress times requiring an extra level of action, then it is healthy and is going to help your survival (this is the so called “eustress” or “good stress”).

When this reaction triggers at inappropriate moments, becomes a panic attack. If a panic attack is triggered frequently in your daily life it becomes a panic disorder.

Panic attack or heart attack?

One of the main symptoms of panic attack is tightness in your chest, that could lead you to believe you are having a heart attack. In fact, panic attack and hearth attack can have surprisingly similar symptoms.

If you experienced a panic attack and have the doubt, see your doctor and go for a check with him, He will assure you that the two are different and that can be distinguished for sure and will help you to identify if you are taking hearth risking by direct check or, if needed, with some medical exams.

Are you having a panic attack?

So how can you tell if you are having a panic attack? Together with tightness in your chest, there are just a few less common symptoms related to panic attacks, each varying from person to person in frequence and intensity. In fact most chronic panic sufferers tend to have a unique set of symptoms that mark uniquely their panic attacks.

Here are a few more distinguishing factors behind panic attacks:

- Increased heart rate.

- Quickness of breathing.

- Overwhelming feeling of dread or fear (panic).

- Unfounded fear towards random objects or events.

- Increased body temperature.

- Tingling in one or both arms and/or the tips of the fingers.

- Dizziness.

- Profuse sweating.

- Lightheadedness.

- Nausea.

- Minor delusions.

Panic in your mind, not in your time

Even if symptoms can be daunting, a person who experiences any combination of the above panic attack symptoms has to remember that the feelings will not last very long.

The fact is that panic attacks are very limited in time and the body can only maintain this reaction for, at most, 15 minutes.

So the panic is in your mind but is not in your time. It’s overwhelming but it won’t last forever in your day. It’s hard, but you won’t die and you are going to experience a relief short after.

About anxiety

When you have a panic attack, you often experience a feeling of anxiety about new attacks that could follow.

This is natural and a confirm that you experienced a real panic attack and not something else. This fear lasts from a few days to a week in most people.

If this fear lasts more (and this will happen probably if you are going to experience more than a panic attack in a week), then there is some evidence for a panic disorder, and a professional medical advice is mandatory. In this case seek help with a medical physician, or psychiatric doctor in order to control your attacks; and things will improve.

Panic attacks and anxiety attacks are strongly related. Even if you can experience strong symptoms, don’t let this put you down. The best way to control your panic attack symptoms is to start preventing them in the first place.

The top six ways to control your panic attack symptoms:

1) Antidepressant, which can help you to get rid of panic attacks. I’m not suggesting going for antidepressants as a standard cure; just consult your physician about taking antidepressants and the way can help you. If you are experiencing heavy panic attacks, a quick start cure of this type will let you reduce the impact of the symptoms and will enable you to a longer term strategy.

2) The cognitive-behaviour therapy helps you to control your panic attack symptoms. You can defeat the symptoms of a panic attack when they occur through visualization, breathing and relaxation techniques.

3) Facing directly the fears is probably the best approach. You can eradicate gradually the situations that cause panic by gradually confronting them. To do this the safe you, is necessary to resort to a professional therapist, as doing it the wrong way will expose you to the uncomfortable situation that could trigger the panic attack.

4) Let go your fear and shame of seeing your doctor and finally ask him for some advice. Don’t let your shame stop you. Ask for advice and follow it.

5) Ask advice to someone you know and got out anxiety.

6) Remember that there are treatments, even for your case. You are not different from other anxiety or panic attack sufferers. They’re going to find a solution and you too.

So even if you suffer from chronic panic attacks or you have a panic disorder, you can improve your quality of life just taking back a little control. Panic disorder is not permanent and you can restore some of this control. Pick one from the previous list you feel comfortable with, and act immediately. Ask some qualified help, follow the advice, and soon will you experience a sustained relief.

If you want to find more about getting qualified anxiety and panic attack treatments give a look at my website.

Need more help to get rid of anxiety and panic attacks?

Get my free Anxiety and Panic Attack eCourse at:

===> Anxiety and Panic Attacks eCourse ...

How To Stop Worrying About Your Anxiety and Start a Solution for Panic Attack

If you suffer from panic attacks, you are for sure seeking for a cure or a solution. Even if there is not a “catch all” cure, there are many strategies you can try to get some relief.

Probably the best cure is prevention and getting back more and more control of the situations your mind perceives as threatening and trigger your panic attacks. How does this work?

1) Don’t rely on Panic Attack Medications

You should try to reduce the amount of pills you are using to get panic attack relief. This is because they can give addiction and other undesirable side effects, even if you can find some immediate relief.

2) Identify Your Triggers

Anxiety and panic attacks come from a sense of loosing control. This will increase your fear and suddenly an uncomfortable feeling about a nasty situation will escalate into a panic attack.

This escalation is activated by specific types of triggers. There two things to be known about these triggers:

- They are specific to each person (your triggers are different than your friend’s).

- They can be of very different nature: fears, mental stress, physical stress, going into particular places, worries…

An essential stress in getting back your sense of control is to become aware of these triggers. So get paper and pencil and take track of your panic attacks during the day. Record what happened and what were your thoughts about it. If you can, take a step back and try to record the sequence of thoughts that resolved into a panic escalation.

Soon you’ll be identifying patterns, i.e. recurring situations and/or recurring thoughts that are triggering your panic attacks.

3) Improve your Behaviour and your Lifestyle

In the meanwhile you have for sure to improve your lifestyle. A stressed life is a frequent source of anxiety.

Keeping track of your triggers will give you some insight on the causes of your anxiety. Is then time to recover some control on these topics through appropriate changes in your lifestyle.

You could try to elaborate simple strategies to improve your control in these situations. Just take a tiny easier part of the most frequent uneasy situation (you should track it from your triggers journal) and see how you could handle it a little better. See if you can find any action that will give you a better answer; ask yourself: “What could I do to improve my response?”. This could be anything: talking with someone, finding something pleasant about the situation, rising up and changing the place, or whatever else you can think of. Of course these are little improvements, but any time you’ll be able to succeed, you’ll recover back part of your control and you’ll experience some relief.

In the meanwhile, a drastic change in your lifestyle will affect the way you experience your panic attacks. This has a double effect:

- This will change the situations you experience, so it could restimulate your triggers in a different way (or maybe they won’t be activated at all).

- A change of location, a change in your career, an healthier diet, more exercise, habitual relaxation techniques are themselves beneficial for your anxiety.

So, maintain healthy eating habits, exercise regularly, cut down daily stressors; these are all part of a sensible anxiety and panic attack solution.

Conclusion

When looking for a long term solution for panic attack symptoms, you can’t rely on pills, antidepressants or other chemical solutions.
If you identify your panic attack triggers and leverage this awareness to improve your response and change your lifestyle, you’ll increase the control you can have on those nasty situations. Finally with time, patience and willpower you’ll learn to manage your panic attacks recognizing early trigger activation and feeding back a better response, and finally you’ll be able to calm down yourself before your anxiety will become unmanageable and escalate to a full panic attack.

If you want to find more natural panic attack remedies give a look at my website.

Need more help to get rid of anxiety and panic attacks?

Get my free eCourse at:

===> Anxiety and Panic Attacks eCourse

Tags: Anxiety, Panic, Attack, Symptom, Disorder, Stress, Mental Health, Fear, Social Anxiety, Sad, Work, Life, Family, anxiety attacks, panic attacks, Insomnia, Restlessness, Life, Relaxation, Meditation

How to Deal With Anxiety Attack Medications The Quick and Safe Way

If you suffer from anxiety attacks you are not alone. Many Americans suffer from it and for sure there are many ways to address the problem.

The two mainstream approaches are:

1) Take the therapeutic route with a mental health professional.

2) Take anxiety and panic attack medications prescribed by a doctor.

The advantage of the second approach is that if you need help with anxiety or panic attacks, you can find apparently a quick answer with an anxiety attack medication.

You can find it in a variety of forms and for sure they could deliver you a fast relief, but beware that it’s unwise to proceed in this field without the express and careful advice of your doctor or a medical professional.

If you ask your physician, you’ll discover that there are many different types of drugs to treat anxiety and panic attacks.
A quick research on this subject reveals that you can find some exotic categories of drugs, like beta blockers, tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, azapirones, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, and more.

A popular type of anxiety attack medication are beta blockers. They’re especially effective in controlling shaking, trembling, heartbeat and other panic and anxiety attacks related symptoms. If you have sleep problems, beta blockers could be not suited for you, as they can cause insomnia, nightmares and other sleep related issues. However if you don’t have sleep problems, they could be helpful as they’re known to have fewer side effects than any other kind of medications. They don’t actually cure the anxiety attack so aren’t suited for a long term approach, however they can be helpful for an immediate intervention, and help you with a quick relief.

Another popular type of drugs used to treat panic attack symptoms are tricyclic antidepressants (popular examples include Venlafaxine, Nortriptyline and Tofranil). They’re used also to treat severe depression and obsession disorders like OCD (obsessive compulsive disorders). You have side effects also with this kind of anxiety medications, including trouble urinating, erectile disfunction, loss of sex drive. You risk to have also sleep problems as with beta blockers.

Benzodiazepines are the typical anxiety attack medication which is prescribed most often to anxiety attack suffers (Alprazolam and Xanax are popular examples). Use of benzodiazepines can be very different in different patients. It can vary from one time assumption to a several years intake. Benzodiazepines based medications claim to solve anxiety symptoms in a big 70% of the patients (probably you have to ignore that the medical pamphlet included with this kind of drugs states that benzodiazepine could be cause of anxiety).

As we have seen, there are many types of drugs you can resort to if you have a panic attack. The general rule to be safe is to be careful with anxiety attack medications. You have to inform yourself on the available anxiety medications options, research them and talk to the medical professional.

The most important task is that you have to double check with your physician and your health specialist the side effects of your prospected anxiety attack medication and its impact on your specific health status. There are patients that suffer of side effects which are worse than the original anxiety problem.

If this happens to be your case, then change the medication for another one with side effects you can tolerate or, better, lower the anxiety medication therapy in favour of the cognitive therapy. Of course you have to discuss this topic with your doctor. Please don’t take this kind of decision by yourself.

So an appropriate use of an anxiety attack medication can save you a lot of time but you have to do it in a sensible way. You have to balance it with a longer term approach and you can find more about a balancing approach with a panic attack medication at my website.

Balancing your lifestyle with a proper medical treatment will enable you to get your life back. It’s not a case that “panic” comes from the greek “pan” which means “all, total, global, everything”.

Due to this reason, if you suffer from panic attack disorder, your life quality is seriously affected.
Anxiety disorders include panic attacks, fear disorders, sleep disorders and stress disorders and a lot more.

You are not alone

When dealing with anxiety disorder, you have first to realize that you are not alone. This is due to our current standard lifestyle, which is forerunner of stress and the related anxiety and panic disorders. So it’s not difficult to understand that anxiety disorders are widespread. In fact, according to statistics, they affect about 13% of world's population; more, there is 2 or 3 percent women than men affected by stress disorders.

Why stress disorders do exist?

Stress disorders have a message for you: your mind thinks that you are handling a stressful situation in a way that is currently inadequate. So sends a "call to action" to your body that you experience with the usual anxiety symptoms.

As long as your mind perception of that situation don’t change, you’ll have the same body response every time you have to deal with that situation. If this is a recurring situation (e.g. talking with your boss), your mind will repeat its call to action and from an anxiety attack you’ll go gradually to an anxiety disorder and (as long as the symptoms will become more intense if the situation don’t resolve) panic disorder.

Why anxiety symptoms are difficult to manage?

Anxiety symptoms are difficult to manage, if you are unprepared, because of two reasons:
1) They seem to occur randomly.
2) They seem to be without a clear cause.

The point is that anxiety symptoms are not random, nor they are without cause. The cause is very real, and is stress.

Why anxiety disorder panic attacks are recurring?

If you don't manage properly your stress (ever heard of "stress management"?), anxiety disorder panic attacks will continue.
A full stress management analysis is beyond the scope of this article, however you should know that a poor lifestyle is a good example of poor stress management. Examples of a poor lifestyle include poor diet, no exercise and insufficient stress relief.

Body diseases due to panic attacks

If you have recurring anxiety attacks and you are not handling them properly, in the long term you are going to suffer of many different diseases.
You’ll have a direct effect on your heart (it will pump faster), so it will be the first organ affected. And others are going to follow it promptly.

If your body will be supporting your anxiety and panic attack symptoms, your other organs will have less resources available. Your lungs will work harder and the blood thins due to a reduced cellular support.

So a panic attack will affect your body in a variety of ways and places. The broader, deeper and frequent the symptoms, the larger will be the punishment your body will be experiencing. So the deeper the symptoms, the higher is the urgency to solve your anxiety disorder.

Make things easier with a proper lifestyle

If you suffer from panic attack disorder, then you have to find a way to get some relief. Dealing with it has to do with handling or solving any underlying stress issues.
As panic disorder relates to having a lack of resources, the simple approach is to re-enable your resource level with, first of all, a proper lifestyle.

1) First of all, you need a proper sleep. And you need it on a regular basis. If you don’t rest the right way, you won’t be able to recover from your daily issues and your resource level won’t restore.

2) Then you need a proper nourishment; if you eat in an inadequate way, then your body won’t be able to repair all the issues.

3) A proper mindset is an important part of a sane lifestyle. You can greatly reduce your anxiety disorder panic attack and its symptoms by taking private time to yourself. Restoring your contact and communication with your environment is known to help quieting your heart. This may sound little too much philosophical but it is known be helping.

4) While you are changing your lifestyle and making things easier for you, see your physician and define a strategy.

If things are for you really difficult and your new lifestyle is not helping enough, maybe an underlying disease is making impossible for you to recover. If you feel that way, you could find some useful advice in my article on panic attack disorders and depression at http://anxiety-panic-attack.thesolution2.com/Main/Anxiety-and-Panic-Attack-anxiety-depression-disorder.php.

Balancing your lifestyle with a proper medical treatment will enable you to get your life back. Let's see why this is true.

Shortness of breath is the most frequent anxiety attack symptom. Its popularity is due to the fact that many people feel other anxiety symptoms and this make them panic. This panic then expresses itself as shortness of breath. The simple advice here is that if you are experiencing shortness of breath, realize that this is just part of an anxiety attack and your world is not caving in. Shortness of breath is just expression of everything else you are already experiencing with your panic attack. This should help you to regain control more easily.

If you are in a crowded area you could experience another anxiety attack symptom: becoming lightheaded. This comes often from an underlying phobia about being in crowds. Even if you could think you are having a major problem, this is usually just one of the symptoms arising from anxiety attacks. So gain awareness and recover a little bit of more control, as with the previous symptom.

When you have an anxiety attack you'll find yourself with a pounding heart. Sometimes you could think you are going to have an heart attack, however this won't happen as you will be experiencing just anxiety.

Finally, fear of losing control is for sure another anxiety symptom winner. This is typically result of a mind game: you experience other symptoms, you start to feel nervous, then you realize that symptoms are not relieving, and finally you start to think you have a problem. Than you see that this problem is not solving, as your symptoms are not lighting, and finally you feel that you are loosing control. Now the game is done and you start to feel fear.

And guess what? This fear will increase all the other symptoms. This is because usually the fear symptoms are really the same than the anxiety ones.

The short version of this story is that the major anxiety symptoms will often be the result of lighter anxiety symptoms and your mind games. And this will build into an anxiety snowball that increases in time with the upsetting condition if this is not resolved. So the previous four symptoms are at the end "fake" symptoms. This doesn't mean they don't exist. They're totally real. However the more you'll try to solve them, the more you'll feel anxiety as they are expression of an underlying lack of control and you won't able to control them directly. You have to recover control on what is behind these symptoms instead.

This is for sure a feasible task. Remember that anxiety can be treated and once you learn to control your attack, you'll have your life back.

You have four main action items to start with:

1) Remember that your big symptoms are just a snowball result of small starting problems.
